Workshop F.A.Q.

WHAT IS AN AVP WORKSHOP?

Through an international network of local chapters, AVP facilitators — all trained volunteers — offer workshops in prisons as well as in the community for all who would like to reduce the level of unresolved conflict in their lives.

AVP workshops draw on the shared experiences of participants and facilitators to explore how anger, frustration, fear and injustice cause violence. Through experiential learning, AVP workshop participants develop their potential to transform conflict and turn negative interactions in a positive direction.

WHY DO PEOPLE TAKE AVP WORKSHOPS?

People take Alternatives to Violence Project workshops because they want to be part of the solution in our increasingly violent society. They want to:

  • explore ways to resolve and transform conflicts.

  • deepen relationships with loved ones through positive communication strategies.

  • help  break the cycle of negative family experiences and be better parents to the next generation.

  • participate in facilitating non-violence workshops in their communities, schools, and prisons.

  • increase the peace in their communities.

WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN AVP WORKSHOP?

AVP offers Basic, Advanced, and Training-for-Facilitator Workshops. Workshops are approximately 20 hours in duration.

Workshops are fast-paced, dynamic, and interactive. Experiential learning includes communication exercises, facilitated discussions, role plays, humor and games.
